Support Richmond Christian School

Grateful. Thankful. In awe.

Richmond Christian School is turning 60 this year and as we reflect upon the last six decades we are overwhelmed by God’s unfailing love and faithfulness.  The original mothers and fathers of RCS sat down to form our mission statement and 60 years later it still remains true and reflects our heart’s desire of serving Christ.

“It is the mission of the Richmond Christian School, in obedience to the infallible Word of God and led by His Spirit, to provide a quality, Christ-centred education, equipping all students to joyfully serve Christ in all aspects of life.”

When our founding families decided to build the first Christian school in Richmond, they were part of the Vancouver Christian School community.  Upon hearing the news that these families wanted to provide a Christ-centred education in their own community, Vancouver Christian School sold half of their property to the city of Vancouver and donated the proceeds to Richmond Christian School. This kingdom building vision helped lay the foundation for 60 years of Christian education in our community.  (You can still visit the park that was created by the sale of the land, on the corner of East 41st near Rupert Street in Vancouver!)

Imagine…60 years ago

  • the same year that RCS opened its doors “equipping all students to joyfully serve Christ”, nine children in Little Rock Arkansas in the U.S. were prevented from entering their school because of the colour of their skin
  • the Oak Street Bridge opened linking Richmond to Vancouver (and the tunnel to Delta just two years later)
  • Douglas Jung, elected for Vancouver Centre, became Canada’s first Member of Parliament of Chinese descent
  • An ounce of gold $35.25
  • A gallon of gas was $0.24
  • The average car cost $2,800….new! And it had a radio!
  • The Frisbee and bubble wrap were invented!

The world and our community have vastly changed since 1957.  From our simple beginnings of 20 students in two rented rooms in a local church, we now have 1,072 students from preschool to grade 12 on three different campuses.

To honour our past and plan for our future, the Board of Directors has announced the creation of the RCS Legacy Fund. This Legacy Fund, utilizing only the interest from the principle amount, will operate in perpetuity and fund scholarships, bursaries and awards for RCS students. The establishment of a $500,000 RCS Legacy Fund will equip future generations at RCS. Your legacy gift benefits students today and in the years to come.

Will you help reach this goal of $500,000?

One of our guests at the at the Chan Centre Christmas program told us, “If you took an offering now, after hearing those voices, you would have made a million dollars!”  We hope she is right!

We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our community in past year end appeals.  This year we invite you to partner with all families of RCS, to provide for the creation of the RCS Legacy Fund.

Your gift of $100, $500, $1,000, $5,000 or $50,000 can make all the difference. All gifts, whether large or small, are considered generous in the kingdom of God.
