Grade Six at the Space Centre
This month our Grade Six students have been exploring God’s creation on a very grand scale. We have learned that our Creator has given us life and a purpose on earth, despite the vastness of the universe. A field trip to the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre allowed students experience space as an extreme environment, construct and launch rockets, and raise many inquiries about our solar system. Students are currently researching and investigating and area of interest to create our own cosmic courtyard of knowledge.

Gr. 6 Teacher
Grade 7 Skiing Unit
All the Grade 7 students headed over to the majestic snow covered North Shore mountains and spent an action-packed day of skiing and boarding the slopes of Mount Seymour.
Grade 8 Snow Tubing
The grade 8’s recently participated in the first of two winter exploratories to Cypress mountain. The day was marked by short hikes up the hill and spinning and chaotic sliding adventures. Unlike previous years, the day was clear and sunny which was perfect for snow tubing. Next-up in our winter exploratory schedule will be snowshoeing!
Athletic Update
This month the Grade 6 and 7 basketball teams have started practicing in preparation for their Christian schools’ tournaments in February. We have 4 teams running, staff and high school students coaching and the gym is fairly busy every afternoon. Please check out www.myrcs.ca website under Calendar and News to find the Middle Campus Athletics schedule to be up to date on practice times and any games scheduled. Most of our teams have been invited to a Catholic school Jamboree and this is a great opportunity for our players to gain game experience.
Thank you to Mr. Friesen for sponsoring the Grade 6 boys team, Mr. Finch for coaching the Grade 7 boys, Ms. Falconer for coaching the Grade 7 girls and Mrs. Burton for taking on the Grade 6 girls team. We have 2 Grade 12 students coaching again this year, Brandon and Tim from our 2017 graduating class are giving back to our school through service. What a great example!
The dates for the all day tournaments are February 7 for the Grade 6’s and February 8 for the Grade 7’s. Students will be meeting early in the morning to travel by bus to their respective tournaments and return to the school at approximately 4 pm.
Mr. Schmidt will soon be holding try-outs/practices in mid-February for a Grade 7 Floor Hockey team as RCS Middle will host an all day tournament on March 7. Students interested should listen for announcements made at school in order to participate on this team.

Grade 8 Girls Basketball
Our Grade 8 Girls’ basketball team has been practicing hard for the past few months and as a coach, I have seen great improvements in each of the girls on the team! We participated in the Christian schools tournament on January 21 and 22, where we were able to achieve our first win! Our team fought through sickness and continued to play to the best of our ability. Unfortunately, there were a few girls who were too sick to compete but we know they were with us in spirit and are grateful for their prayers during the weekend!
In our first games of the tournament, we played 2 very challenging teams where we decided to set our own team goals and play ‘our’ game. We managed to beat our goals in both of these games and walked away from these games excited about our accomplishments and excited to play one more game! In our final game of the tournament, our team played hard and walked away with an encouraging win! We again achieved our goal and won both ‘our’ games and this time also the game on the scoreboard. I am extremely proud of each of the girls, their positive and encouraging attitudes, and the sportsmanship they showed during the tournament!
