December 2017
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Christmas at the Chan 2017
It was a fabulous and spectacular evening as parents and students gathered at the Chan Centre for the annual Christmas Program. We sang, we laughed, we prayed and we praised God together as a school family. I am so grateful for the students who performed so well and for the parents who attended. It was a great evening in which all of our campuses could come together as one school. One of the high points of the evening was when the students sang the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah. It was a special moment to hear, “King of kings and Lord of lords” sung so powerfully by the grade 2-5 classes.
There were choirs and bands and by the end of the evening, 730 students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 had opportunity to be on stage. And this was all done in 1 hour and 10 minutes. We were informed that RCS was one of the largest performing groups the Chan has ever hosted. Not bad, eh?
Scheduling the Christmas program at the Chan presented us with some unique challenges. We wondered whether families would make the drive to the Chan Centre and if they would purchase tickets? Well, we quickly discovered that our families were very willing to buy tickets and come to the Chan. In fact, more parents attended than ever before. This year we had more seats available for parents and guests than in previous years and still we sold out.
The response was overwhelming. Thank you for helping make the evening so successful.

Legacy Fund
It was announced at the Christmas Program that a Legacy Fund is being established at RCS in honour of our 60th Anniversary. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships and bursaries for students of RCS in the years to come. Since only the interest of this Legacy Fund will be used, the principal will remain intact and will help serve deserving students in the years to come. Your generous gifts to this Legacy Fund are greatly appreciated.
Please look for the green envelope which will arrive in your mailbox over the next few days. You will find a letter providing you with all the details of how to participate in this 60th-anniversary project. I would encourage you to forward your gift to RCS before the end of the school year. Will you help in the establishment of this ongoing Legacy Fund?
If you wish to donate on line, please go to www.myrcs.ca/donate. All donations received prior to December 31, 2017 will receive a tax receipt.
