January 2017

Welcome Back!

The Christmas Vacation has come and gone and I hope that you were able to celebrate this special season with your families and with your church communities. The cold weather in December certainly added to the Canadian ideal of a White Christmas.

On December 19 we were able to celebrate the birth of Jesus at our annual Christmas Program. It was wonderful to hear the students from Kindergarten through Grade Twelve singing and playing their musical instruments to the glory of God. A big thank you to the music teachers and school staff for facilitating the evening to progress so efficiently and so professionally. Did you know that 700 students were involved in the program?

Sadly, we have outgrown the venue of South Delta Baptist Church and we must find a new place to host our school program at the end of the year. This search may prove rather difficult as there are very few venues that can accommodate our large student and family population.

Ms. Walker is Retiring

Our well-loved and respected Middle Campus Principal, Ms. Edith Walker, has announced her retirement for June of 2016. Ms. Walker has been at RCS for 31 years and served the school in a variety of roles. She has seen the school through many ups and downs and has witnessed firsthand the significant growth of RCS in the last ten years.

At the Elementary Campus, Ms. Walker starred as a teacher in a variety of grades and held the role of Curriculum Coordinator and Vice-Principal before becoming the Principal of the Middle Campus. It was the dream of Ms. Walker to have RCS establish a middle school and she was the key figure in bringing that vision to reality in September 2008. Can you imagine RCS without the Middle Campus? Can you imagine RCS without Ms. Walker?

Our heartfelt thanks is expressed to Ms. Walker for her time and investment of care, expertise and wisdom at RCS and we pray all the love and joy for her as she steps away from RCS to spend more time with her family and grandchildren. (Lucky kids!) We have a few more months until June and we will continue together with joy and happiness, saving our tears for the retirement celebrations later in the spring.

God bless you, Ms. Walker. Thank you for a job well-done.

Collection for the Crisis Pregnancy Centre

Every charity needs a charity and for the last several years RCS has supported the Crisis Pregnancy Centre with Gifts for the Manger at the Elementary Campus and with a special collection at the Christmas Program. RCS is a very generous community and your offerings totaled $5176. Thank you for your great kindness and for enabling RCS to support this very worthwhile charity.

A BIG BIRTHDAY

Did you know RCS will be celebrating a 60th birthday in the Fall of 2017? It was September of 1957 when RCS first opened its doors ((see picture for RCS’s first location).  Plans are underway to mark this significant milestone in the life of RCS.

Year End Appeal

The generosity of our RCS families is also demonstrated in the donations to the annual Year End Appeal. Your donations will enable a variety of projects to take place at each campus. The Elementary Campus is thrilled to start a kitchen renovation which will accommodate student bakers, the Middle Campus is looking forward to the arrival of more iPads for the classrooms, and the Secondary Campus will be able to purchase furniture for student and classroom use in an outdoor setting.

Again, thank you for your monetary gifts which help equip RCS with excellent facilities and equipment. Total Amount as of January 17 is $54,000.

 Enrolment for September 2017

Don’t delay in completing your Enrolment Forms for September 2017. There are many families waiting to enrol at RCS and receiving your enrolment forms enables us to determine the available openings for new families. The last day to submit your 2017 Enrolment Form is Thursday, January 26.

RCS 101

On Tuesday evening, January 24, the RCS 101 Orientation Session will be held at the Secondary Campus at 6pm. The evening provides insight and discussion about the purpose of a Christian Education and how that plays out on a daily basis. The evening is very informative and provides opportunity for group discussion and input. You also have the opportunity to meet the families of the students who are becoming your child’s new friends.

RCS 101 is mandatory and all parents are required to attend these sessions. If you recall your initial interview at RCS, this requirement was stated as an expectation of enrolment at RCS. I’m looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening. Please come and invest 2.5 hours in the school where your children spend 900 hours each school year. It’s worth the time.
