June 2016

June 14th is June General Meeting
7:30pm Secondary Campus

By now you will have received a copy of the report for the June General Meeting. This report is written for the school society and is a summary of the 2015-2016 school year.   Whether as a society member or an interested community member, I hope you took time to read the report and learn of the various activities and operations of the school.

At the meeting this evening, there will be the election of officers to the Board of Trustees as well as the Treasurer’s report with the proposed budget and tuition for the 2016-2017 school year.  There will be several mini presentations by a variety of Board Members and school leaders.  You will learn about the new RCS at Night program for the parents of RCS, hear about the school events from the campus Principals, as well as receive an update on the development of the Aquaponics Farm.  It will be an informative evening.  See you on the 14th at 7:30pm.

Board and Committees at RCS

RCS is a parent participation school. This means there is opportunity for parents/guardians to become appropriately involved in the life of the school. Some of this involvement is informal and includes such activities as volunteering in the classroom or on the playground, baking for a school event, driving for a field trip, or assisting in the various fundraisers and community events hosted by the Director of Development.

Participation at the committee and board level is more formalized and comes with a higher standard of expectation and commitment. To serve at this level, a parent must be a society member. Society membership is available upon completion of:
a) one full year attendance at RCS and
b) completion of Sessions 1 and 2 of the parent orientation evenings – RCS 101.

Parents who meet these requirements are eligible to join the Richmond Christian School Association at the Annual General Meeting in November of the following school year. Prospective society members are interviewed prior to the November meeting and must pay a $5 membership fee and affirm their agreement with the Constitution and Faith Statements with a written signature.

Electronic Report Cards for June 2016

This year, students will receive their final report card in electronic form.  By June 24, parents will receive an email invitation with a link and a code to access the MySchool Management Parent Portal (MSM). MSM is the student management system that RCS uses to maintain all family and student records. Through MSM, parents will be able view important school and class/course information on their child/ren. One of the exciting features of the MSM Parent Portal is the ability to view and print-off your child’s report card. RCS will not be sending home an end-of-year paper report card. This means you are no longer required to pick up report cards on June 30. Report cards will be available electronically from the MySchool Management Parent Portal.

Convocation June 2016

It was our joy and pleasure to host the 2016 Convocation for our Grade 12 Graduates last Friday evening. The tradition of having the Grade One prayer buddies participate in the graduation was continued as they sang at the opening of the Convocation Ceremony. Following is a sneak preview of some pictures from this very special occasion. More pictures will follow in the Eagle’s Eye.

CARNIVAL 2016
(or was it Rain & Wind Festival 2016?)

It was the rainiest day of the year and it was a 10 year record for the rainiest Saturday in May. And still the CARNIVAL took place! And 1000 more game and food tickets were sold this year! WOWSERS!

A special thank you is extended to our Director of Development, Ann-Michele Ewert, for successfully leading the team of volunteers through this very wet day. And special recognition is offered to Ms. Jane Huang and her team of Grad Legacy students, as well as our grade 11’s for their impressive work and effort in making the CARNIVAL such a success. Our Guatemala Missions Team students also stepped up to help and we were grateful for their participation. Together with more than 60 parent volunteers we learned that the CARNIVAL can be a success whether rain or shine, and whether it is indoors or outdoors.

A great big giant thank you to the parent community for attending the CARNIVAL and totally making this RCS event a smash hit!
