The Senior Boys Volleyball Team has had an amazing season despite the many twists. This year, they encountered a short but intense regular season, as well as a change in tier from ‘A’ to ‘AA’ which increases the level of competition significantly. However, under the guidance of Head Coaches Hans and Karsten Fast (RCS Alumni 2012) and Assistant Coach Anthony Beutel (RCS Alumni 2012 and RCS Elementary EA), as well as the hard work of the Senior Boys Volleyball Team, led by Captain Timothy Sayson and Assistant Captain Mark Goertzen, they have overcome these challenges.
In the Richmond League, they were undefeated until the finals, taking 2nd place to ‘AAA’ Steveston-London which helped us secure a spot to the Lower Mainland ‘AA’ Championships. During these championships, held last Saturday, November 15, the boys showed mental fortitude and skill rallying against Bodwell in the semifinals and winning against friendly rival Hugh McRoberts Secondary in an exciting nail-biter of a final, making this team the first RCS team to win a ‘AA’ Lower Mainland Championships and securing a spot in the upcoming Provincials! They could not have done this without the support of a lot of people in the school community.
The team would like to thank the administration, staff, parents, family, classmates and friends who supported them by cheering them on in the bleachers, helping with academics in school, providing rides, rest and food and just praying for them!
Come out and support the boys during the Provincial Championships at the Langley Events Centre on November 26-29!
